Barbra Rabson, President and CEO of MHQP, has announced that after 27 years of leading the organization, she will be stepping down from her role next summer.
Barbra has been at the heart of MHQP since its earliest days, guiding the organization with vision, integrity, and passion. Under her leadership, MHQP has become a trusted and respected leader — both in Massachusetts and nationally — in the areas of improving patient experiences of care, advancing health equity, and strengthening primary care.
Throughout her tenure, Barbra has:
- Pioneered public reporting of clinician and patient experience data, empowering patients to make informed choices and motivating clinicians to continually improve care.
- Built strong partnerships across the healthcare community, fostering collaboration among clinicians, hospitals, health plans, patients, employers, and policymakers.
- Elevated the patient voice through MHQP’s groundbreaking statewide Patient Experience Survey and a steadfast commitment to understanding what matters most to patients.
- Led MHQP through times of transformation, ensuring the organization remained a trusted convener and a source of objective, actionable insights for improving the quality and equity of patient experiences of care.
“We are grateful to Barbra for her leadership and vision and her unwavering belief in the power of collaboration to improve healthcare quality that has shaped MHQP’s identity and impact,” said Board Chair Julita Mir. “Her deep commitment to patients and clinicians alike has left a lasting legacy that will continue to guide MHQP’s mission in the years ahead. We are also grateful for Barbra’s wisdom to provide the Board ample time to plan for an orderly transition to new leadership.”
“It has been a tremendous honor to lead this amazing organization, working alongside MHQP’s Board, Councils, and staff, and serving all those who trust MHQP for reliable data and partnerships,” Rabson said. “This is a challenging time for healthcare, and the independence and dedication to improving healthcare quality in Massachusetts that MHQP has demonstrated over its 30-year history is needed now more than ever.”
