Barbra Rabson Receives Primary Care Community Leadership Award from Primary Care Collaborative

(June 2025)

MHQP is pleased to announce that Barbra Rabson, MHQP’s President and CEO, was honored with the Primary Care Community Leadership Award by the Primary Care Collaborative (PCC) at its Barbara Starfield Awards Dinner on June 4, 2025, in Washington, DC.

“Under her leadership, MHQP has become a national leader in the measurement and public reporting of healthcare information, with a particular focus on measuring and improving patients’ experiences of care,” says the PCC announcement.

This award honors an individual or organization that has demonstrated remarkable leadership to ensure that primary care is foundational to community or state health care reform efforts. Such efforts are critical to developing and understanding what works to strengthen primary care and to inform broader national efforts to improve the nation’s health by making primary care more robust.

“I am completely honored to be receiving this award and am so grateful to Ann Greiner and the Primary Care Collaborative for this very meaningful recognition,” said Ms. Rabson in her acceptance speech. “I accept this award on behalf of my wonderful colleagues at MHQP, for whom this recognition means so much.

“At first glance it might seem surprising that someone who runs a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality and equity of patient experiences of care would be receiving a Primary Care Community Leadership Award. But it is because of our mission that we felt we needed to work to strengthen primary care. The primary care relationship is key to the experiences of our patients and strengthening primary care and improving patient experiences go hand-in-hand.”

Barbra also thanked her many primary care champion colleagues in Massachusetts who have been with her on this journey.

In closing Barbra noted, “In Massachusetts we pride ourselves on our healthcare leadership, but we will only succeed if we follow the north star teachings of Barbara Starfield whose research has demonstrated that only in countries and systems with a well-organized primary care system will be enable people to live longer, healthier, more equitable lives.”
