Collecting, Aggregating and Reporting HEDIS Data with CHIA

What We Did:

MHQP is working with the Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA) to collect, aggregate and report commercial Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) measures. The contract calls for MHQP to:

    • Identify a subset of commercial HEDIS measures for reporting
    • Collaborate with health plans in the Commonwealth to collect source data
    • Aggregate and report data at multiple levels
    • Provide results and benchmarks and share these with provider organizations and participating health plans

Who Is Involved:

This work is through a contract from the Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA) for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Why This Work Matters:

CHIA is an independent agency established pursuant to M.G.L. c. 12C, a health care reform law enacted to improve health care quality and contain health care costs. The agency is charged with monitoring the Massachusetts healthcare system and providing reliable information and meaningful analysis for those seeking to improve health care quality, affordability, access, and outcomes. CHIA is required to develop the uniform reporting of healthcare quality measures for the Standard Quality Measure Set (SQMS), which is required to include HEDIS measures.

HEDIS is a rich data source essential to monitoring the performance of the Massachusetts health care system. It is a widely used set of performance measures in the managed care industry, developed and maintained by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and designed to allow consumers to compare health plan performance to other plans and to national or regional benchmarks.
