Women's Health:
Breast Cancer Screening (Ages 40 to 69)

Healthcare quality measure: This measure looks at women between 40 to 69 years of age. It shows the percent of those patients who had a mammogram at least once in the past two years.

Reasons for this measure: Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in American women. In fact, a woman in the United States has a 1 in 8 lifetime risk of having breast cancer. Many women are the first in their family to have breast cancer.

The good news is that breast cancer is often cured when found early. One way to find breast cancer is with a mammogram (a type of x-ray). A mammogram finds about 85% (8.5 out of 10) of all breast cancers.
